 In the heart of Barton Street, Hamilton's notorious hub for street prostitution, stands the SWAP Aid Center, a beacon of hope for sex workers in the community. Named after the Sex Workers Action Program, this center, under the leadership of CEO Jelena Vermilion, herself a sex worker, is dedicated to empowering and enhancing the well-being of those engaged in the industry.

 More than just a shelter, SWAP Aid Center is a haven where sex workers find respite, a change of clothes, a small kitchen, and even a dance pole for free expression. Jelena Vermilion emphasizes the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for these women, advocating for their inclusion rather than marginalization.

Since its establishment in 2018, SWAP HAMILTON aid Center has provided invaluable assistance to over 300 sex workers, offering a space managed by individuals who truly understand their needs. Partnered with psychotherapist Arlene Jane Pitts, the center fills a vital gap in Canada's support network, particularly for street-based sex workers and those struggling with addiction.
